Wattamolla – RNP

A well kept secret, Wattamolla in the Royal National Park is an amazing getaway for a young family like us. The beach is secluded and the water is shallow and crystal clear. The beach is separated from a river by a large sand dune. The river estuary is incredible with shallow water to splash in and a small forested area bordering a pond which is great for fishing.

We invited our friends, Amanda and Simon, and their kids Thomas M. (who’s 4) and Alex (who’s 2) along. Thomas M. and Tomas K. are good pals and it’s super cute to hear them call each other by their first name and last initial!

We enjoyed swimming and a nice picnic lunch (thanks to Amanda and Simon who brought some tasty treats). But the highlight for us was watching Tomas catch his first fish! While exploring the estuary, we came across a father and son fishing in the pond. They showed us the fish as they caught them and released them. They were kind enough to let Tomas have a turn. The only hitch was that he had to wade into the water naked to reach the good fishing spot. Not a problem for our kiddo who immediately striped down to nothing and got in.

Once again, the Royal National Park – only an hour drive from Sydney has shown us how gorgeous this area of Australia truly is!
