Ethan turns 5!

This year we had a Halloween birthday party as one of Ethan’s mates has the same birthday and had already booked his party in Nov 1.

We were pretty excited to host a Halloween party tho …this being one of our favourite holidays. So we made a haunted house in the granny flat and had a mini pumpkin painting station, along with the usual party games – all of which was a big hit.

Ethan invited 13 friends, but with siblings it ended up being a crew of 21!!

It was a full house of children and parents. The kids oddly enough were enthralled with our staircase – didn’t see that one coming. I suppose tradition Aussie homes are one level, so it was a novelty.

The cake was a monster mash – a Giant pumpkin head with Frankenstein popping through it. A bit freaky but that didn’t bother anyone!

When the party was over, Ethan immediately asked if we could do that again!!! What a party animal!

We came across the Coogee Rock Pool today and it was undergoing a routine clean by the Council. Basically they pump the water out and power wash the ROCK walls which tend to get an algae build up over time.

The pool had been emptied, but not power washed ….yet. These two monkeys got in and upon discovering some marine life, did these animals a service by moving them to deeper water. Saved creatures included giant sea slugs, crabs, a tiny fish, and sea urchins.

Not sure about these giant sea dlugs climbing out of the coffee cup lid!

This year, Tomas’ age group is in the water for part of the time – which is more fun than previous years where the kids were mostly on the sand.

Exploring our new neighbourhood

First stop the Botany Aquatic Centre (also know as the Botany Splash), located two very short blocks from our house! It’s a fabulous spot with gorgeous parkland, three different pools: one kiddie size, another about 1 m deep so Ethan could touch, and a third Olympic size pool. And lucky for Tomas he met the height requirement to go on the water slides! Such a fun spot!

North Wollongong Beach

Our first swim of the season at a new beach for us. We had planned to go to the royal national park but as it was a holiday weekend, the park was full so we kept driving south. And what a gorgeous spot we found – great for a picnic, rock exploration and swim!

Litter Management Award

My colleague and I were highly commended for our environmental sustainability approach to litter management program at Bondi Beach. Keep new South Wales beautiful is a non for profit organization that honours councils and the community for their environmentally sustainable projects.

All in all a fun night with a great group of people.

Fun times with Marcus (pronounced Mahcus in Aussie). Too bad these two won’t be attending the same primary school next year, but I have a feeling we’ll still see plenty of Marcus!
