In late Jan as per tradition we camped at our favorite spot in bundeena at the royal national park.
We met up with a two of our favourite families over the four days. The kids had a blast playing together. They weren’t fussed by the ominous clouds overhead or the intermittent rain.
Every time we discussed packing it in, the sun would come out so we stuck it out! And I’m glad we did – fun had by all…
For something different this year, we booked the reptile man to come to Tomas’ birthday party. What a hit! He brought snakes, lizards and a baby crock! As Tomas was the birthday boy he was invited to hold all the reptiles before Matt (aka reptile man) brought the animals around for all the kids to see.
And of course the best part was that Baka and Dida were here to enjoy the day with us!
The cake this year is a scene from the skylanders video game. That was also a hit!
This is the position you take when a snake is placed on your shoulders….
Then you’re prepared for bigger snakes like this python….
Surprise surprise….in the Hunter Valley, wine tasting is free! Couldn’t believe how much wine we tasted over 2 days!
Once again Baka and Dida watched the kids for a couple days so mike and I could get away to the hunter valley wine region – another first for us!
We went with Damian and Maddie who also had never been. After a full day of slurping wine and enjoying gorgeous views we went out for a fancy dinner which was absolute delicious. Too bad our bellies were so full that we could barely get it all down!
One of the highlights was enjoying a yummy cab from a boutique winery established in 1963.
The next day we enjoyed a lovely breakfast at an outdoor cafe and hit a few small wineries on our way home.
So with grandparents in the house, Mike and I took the opportunity to get out as often as we could! We went to a bar for new years (a first for us in Oz), went to the movies, and even saw Vampire Weekend in concert! Thanks for that Baka and Dida!
I didn’t think our holiday could get much better and then the in-laws arrived! Yippee! The kids got spoiled -totally expected and welcomed for that matter as that doesn’t happen often!
We celebrated Baka’s and Tomas’ birthday; saw the fireworks at Coogee Beach for New Years, went to Taronga Zoo and the Maritime museum, and so much more!
Above, Ethan is refusing to wear shoes at the zoo and nearly joining the giraffes in their enclosure.
On the ferry ride home – my attempt at a selfie with Tomas.
